The lighting design for T4 Changi Airport in Singapore was a unique opportunity. It allowed the integration of natural and artificial lighting from the initial concept to the project’s completion. The design prioritizes visual comfort and wayfinding. It also creates a sense of place that reflects Singapore’s local context. Inspired by the petal motif, the passenger journey through T4 offers pleasant surprises. This encourages travelers to slow down and appreciate the space rather than rushing through it.

The central galleria showcases these elements with its interior landscape, sky views, and abundant natural light. As night falls, subtle plays of light and color continue to enhance the space. This provides a seamless transition from day to night. Overall, its innovative airport lighting design highlights the significance of well-executed lighting in modern architecture.

Artificial Lighting, Visual Media

Client: China Star Entertainment Limited
Completion year: 2014

Lan Kwai Fong Hotel Macau is situated in the historical part of Macau new Praca do Lotus. Soon being surrounded by new developments, the task was to heighten its visibility in the surrounding cityscape and revive the street façade. In addition, the Hotel’s logo was to be integrated for recognition both from far perspective and pedestrian viewpoints. The media façade concept is derived from linear building design elements inspired by Art-Deco. A vertical and a horizontal band wrap around the tower and podium, the latter with varying density and considering typical viewing angles. Several animation concepts have been developed to provide a dedicated content. A custom luminaire design was then tailored to the façades without interfering with the existing lighting. Furthermore, the colonnade lighting was renewed and extended for improved visual comfort and accentuating the main entrance.

The 206-metre-long and 168-metre-wide steel construction is clad with an illuminated membrane facade, which lends the building its characteristic crystalline appearance. During the dark hours the majestic hall’s facade is lit by 5,400 LED RGB light points that make a great visual impact.

The IFC Guangzhou with a height of 487 m ranks amongst the highest buildings on earth. A solution for the presentation of the façade was developed with which you can see the characteristic, diagonal structure of the framework behind the glass façade even at night. Because the tower is mainly used for office and hospitality, the lighting needed to be easy to maintain from the outside and must not shine into the interior. The solution are integrated façade elements with LED that can illuminate the building dynamically and colourful. The standard setting though is monochrome and static light scenes to underline the architecture of the building.
