- What does Lichtvision do?
- Lichtvision is an independent architectural lighting design practice. We develop lighting concepts, daylight strategies, visual-media integration and controls programming for buildings, public spaces and urban districts — from early concept through commissioning. We work alongside architects, developers, museums, hospitality groups and city authorities, never as a supplier of fixtures.
- Where is Lichtvision based?
- We operate six studios on three continents: Berlin, London, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore. The global setup means a project in Doha, Dresden or Singapore is led locally but supported by the full international team. Clients get one consistent design standard, delivered in the right time zone, language and regulatory context.
- When was Lichtvision founded?
- Lichtvision was founded in 1997 in Berlin. Almost three decades of continuous practice mean a deep reference library across cultural, commercial, hospitality, residential, urban and transport projects — and long-standing relationships with the architects, engineers and clients who shape them.
- What makes Lichtvision independent?
- We hold no manufacturer alliances, no commissions and no preferred-supplier agreements. Every specification is written for the project — based on photometric performance, glare control, longevity, maintenance and budget — not for a catalogue. Clients can audit our selection process at any time.
- Which sectors does Lichtvision work in?
- Six sectors: Hotel & Residential (hotels, resorts, residences), Office & Commercial (offices, headquarters, R&D), Shop & Mall (retail, showrooms, malls), Museum & Culture (museums, galleries, heritage), Infrastructure & Stadium (stadiums, arenas, airports, stations) and Facade & Exterior (facades, masterplans, public realm). Cross-sector experience lets us bring proven solutions into new typologies.
- What technical capabilities does Lichtvision offer beyond lighting design?
- Three integrated competences: Daylighting (analysis, glare and view modelling, LEED/BREEAM/WELL credit support), Visual Media (media facades, projection mapping, content sequencing) and Lighting Controls (DALI-2, KNX, scene programming, IoT integration). These are delivered in-house, not subcontracted, so the design intent survives into the building.
- Can you share examples of Lichtvision projects?
- Reference projects include the Albertinum in Dresden, the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, Leica Camera headquarters, Alwadi Hotel Doha, Audrey House London, 83 King Lam Street in Hong Kong and dozens of cultural, hospitality and urban schemes across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. - How does Lichtvision support sustainability and certification?
- Lighting and daylight strategies are developed against energy budgets, circadian metrics and dark-sky targets from the first concept sketch. We document evidence for LEED, BREEAM, WELL and DGNB credits, specify long-life serviceable fittings, and design controls that genuinely reduce installed load — not just nameplate compliance.
- At what stage should an architect or developer involve a lighting designer?
- As early as possible — ideally at concept design. Early involvement lets lighting shape facade rhythm, ceiling coordination, daylight openings and structural reveals, rather than retrofitting fixtures into finished surfaces. We also join later stages (tender, site, commissioning) when a project needs a course correction.
- How do I start a project with Lichtvision?
