Sector · Hotel & Residential

Light that turns a stay into a memory.

Hotels, resorts, branded residences, private homes, restaurants, spas and cruise ships — places where the quality of light is the quality of the welcome.

Our approach

Hotel & Residential lighting design, in practice.

Hospitality lighting is hospitality itself. From the porte-cochère to the last bedside dimmer, light sets the tempo of arrival, the comfort of dining, the privacy of a suite and the calm of a spa. Since 1997, Lichtvision has been designing this choreography of light alongside the world's most considered hotel architects and interior designers — across city landmarks, resorts, branded residences, wellness destinations and cruise vessels.

We treat every property as a singular brand story. The brief is never only photometric: it is the moment a guest steps into a lobby that breathes, a restaurant whose menu reads beautifully under warm white light, a corridor that does not shout, and a bathroom mirror that flatters at six in the morning and at midnight. Our designers in Berlin, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Barcelona collaborate with operators worldwide to deliver this consistency at scale.

Designing for the guest journey

The guest's perception of a hotel is built one threshold at a time. We map every transition — arrival drive, lobby, lifts, corridor, room threshold, bedhead, bathroom, balcony — and tune light levels, colour temperature and contrast so the journey feels continuous, never abrupt. Warmer light at the periphery, considered sparkle at focal moments, and a quiet baseline that lets art, materials and people take the foreground.

Operators rightly ask for repeatability across portfolios. We deliver lighting specifications, scene programming and commissioning protocols that travel — from a flagship in Berlin to a resort in the Maldives — without losing the local character that gives a property its sense of place.

Wellness, sleep and circadian rhythm

Sleep is the product. Guests pay for rest, and lighting either supports or undermines it. We design in-room scenes that follow a circadian arc: bright, cool-tinted task light in the morning; warm, low-melanopic light in the evening; and a true blackout state for sleep. For spas, wellness clubs and treatment rooms, we tune spectrum and luminance to support relaxation, recovery and meaningful daylight contact wherever the architecture permits.

Restaurants, bars and event spaces

F&B environments live and die by their lighting. We design with high-CRI sources and dedicated TM-30-evaluated optics so plates, skin tones and fabrics read as the chef and the interior designer intended. Scenes shift across the day — brunch, lunch, aperitivo, dinner, late-night — and stay reliable in the hands of front-of-house staff through intuitive control interfaces.

Frequently asked

Questions clients ask.

What is the ideal colour temperature for hotel guestrooms?
We typically anchor guestrooms at 2700K with selected 2200K accents at lamps and bedheads, and tune cooler temperatures only where task lighting demands it. Tunable-white is reserved for spaces where the operational case is clear.
Do you design daylight as well as artificial light?
Yes. Daylight strategy — orientation, shading, glare control and view — is part of every hospitality brief, in close coordination with the architect and facade engineer.
Can you work to brand standards from a hotel operator?
We regularly interpret and exceed operator brand standards while protecting the architectural intent. Our deliverables include specifications and commissioning documents that operators can audit.
Do you also design private homes and branded residences?
Yes. Branded residences, penthouses and private houses belong to this sector: the same standard of light quality, with simple everyday control and a very discreet integration into the interior detailing.
